Obi passed away after the crash which happened on Friday while traveling with the Heartland squad to a pre-season tournament in Abakaliki.
The vehicle they were in collided with a truck that had been carelessly parked on the road.
According to the club’s statement:
“The driver did his best to avoid the collision, but the impact caused a severe shock to our coach, Christian Obi, who was found unconscious with a slight injury to his right leg upon evacuation from the severely damaged part of the bus.”
Samson Obi was the only casualty reported in the ghastly road accident involving Heartland FC.
“Coach Obi and other injured players were immediately taken to a nearby hospital in Okwelle, Onuimo LGA, Imo State.
“Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Coach Obi succumbed to his injuries.
Obi had been in-charge of Heartland FC since last season, earning respect and admiration from the players and fans alike.
