Forgotten Super Eagles star could follow Osimhen to Turkey after latest loan bid

Osimhen’s influence seems to be growing as another Nigerian has been linked to a move to Turkey

Nigerian forward Gift Orban could soon be on the move to Turkey after Trabzonspor submitted a loan offer to Olympique Lyonnais.

Trabzonspor’s Loan Deal for Orban

The Turkish club is eager to strengthen its attacking options and has placed a bid that could see Orban join the Turkish Super Lig, potentially following in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Osimhen, who recently moved to Galatasaray.

Trabzonspor’s offer for Gift Orban comes just before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 13th. According to reports, the Turkish club has proposed a €1 million loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent for an additional €6 million, provided certain conditions are met.

Specifically, Trabzonspor would be required to sign Orban permanently if they win the Turkish league and if the Nigerian forward scores up to 20 league goals.

While Lyon has been open to offloading Orban following the arrival of Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze earlier in the summer, the Nigerian’s recent form—particularly a brace against RC Strasbourg—may give the French club pause.

A New Chapter in Turkey for Orban?

The deal is described as “interesting” to Lyon, though it remains unclear whether they will accept the bid for the one-time Super Eagles invitee.

If the transfer is successful, Gift Orban will be the second Nigerian star to move to the Turkish Super Lig this season, following Osimhen’s high-profile loan to Galatasaray.

The potential move could provide Orban with a fresh start after a mixed spell at Lyon, where playing opportunities have been limited due to competition in the squad and his own inconsistent form.

However, with his fortune appearing to change in Lyon thanks to his recent form, Orban could be tempted to fight for his place this season.
