Nigeria will play against Benin Republic in Uyo on 7th September, and then face Rwanda in Kigali on 10th September.

Eguavoen said,  “Our objective is clear, to pick the six points in both matches. The players know this, and are committed to accomplishing this.”

“The matches will not be easy; no qualifying game can be taken for granted because all the teams want to play in the finals. However, we have spoken to the players and all of us are on the same page.”

“Starting with the match against Benin Republic on Saturday, nobody is mentioning anything about revenge. Our goal is three points, and then we aim for another three points in Kigali on Tuesday that will put us in good stead for qualification.”

Some important players are back after missing earlier games due to injuries. William Ekong, the team captain, is returning after a strong AFCON tournament.

Victor Osimhen, who completed his season-long loan move to Galatasaray from Napoli, has also joined the squad in Uyo camp.

Eguavoen is likely to pick Stanley Nwabali as goalkeeper, with Aina, Semi Ajayi, Ekong, and Bassey in defense.

In midfield, the options include Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Alhassan Yusuf, and Raphael Onyedika.

Forwards Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, and Ademola Lookman will compete for spots in attack.

Ademola Lookman, who was nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, will also be a key player. Lookman had a great season with Atalanta, scoring 17 goals and making 11 assists.

The game against Benin Republic will start at 5 PM at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
